Runnels County Courtroom: It’s no surprise that structures everywhere are built with far to many interior reflective surfaces – floors, ceilings, walls, etc.. This can destroy the listening quality of a room, or space. Have you ever tried talking to someone inside and your voice just seems to echo and echo? That’s what you don’t want – a lot of restaurants are known to have this issue.
Runnels County Court House is a perfect example of a beautiful historic Texas courthouse built in 1889, with no interior design for good sound quality. A court house is a place where listening is a prime goal. S.R.S. was contacted by Tom Glosup, a construction consultant to Runnels County, to evaluate and provide a solution to their court room’s acoustic reflection issues.
With four reflective walls, 11′ tall by 42′ long, 2 pairs of parallel paneled wall surfaces creates a terrible reflective listening environment. The ceiling is already treated and that helps greatly. The goal is to start with the direct opposite reflective wall facing the judges position. Installing wall to wall SRS Natural panel is the first start to eliminating reflection. Runnels County is working on a budget just like any other government facility, and they desire to try one wall first and then go from there. SRS panel is inexpensive compared to all other reflective solutions out on the market today and it is architecturally beautiful in Natural, Ebony, Brown, and Birds Eye Maple.
